Meetings are held at the Historic Courthouse on the third Thursday of each month at 7:30 PM. The Society extends a hearty welcome to all.

LAHS Meeting, January 20 1994:The program will be "Seabrook School Foundation" presented by Meredith Devendorf. Ms. Devendorf was graduated from Amherst College, Amherst, Mass. cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in History and English. She is presently working on her Masters of Arts in Southern Studies at the University of Mississippi, Oxford, Mississippi.

The Seabrook School Foundation, which is supported by grants and individual contributions is located on 104 acres five miles east of Interstate 95 in Liberty County. The Foundation is in the process of creating a Cultural Interpretive Site, depicting the Seabrook Community at the turn of the century. Meredith Devendorf has both an intellectual and personal interest in this project, her family has lived in the area since the 1700s and her mother donated the land for the project.

LAHS Meeting, February 17 1994:"Early Colonial Period of Sunbury and Fort Morris" presented by selective history students of Mrs. Avis W. Wisner, History teacher, Bradwell Institute, Hinesville, Georgia. This program has been reported as being captivating and informative as these students, using props and artifacts and reciting oral history give us a glimpse into the eighteenth century daily lives of our neighbors in Liberty County.

SPECIAL EVENTS:

"Eighteenth Century, Six pounder, British Naval Cannon" will be fired on regular schedule at Fort King George in 1994. LAHS has been instrumental in helping Fort King George acquire an eighteenth century, six pounder, British Naval Cannon, which has been installed near the Block House, overlooking the Altamaha River. The firing of the Cannon will take place on the second and fourth Saturday's of each month at Fort King George, on the hour, between the hours of 11:00 AM and 4:00 PM. A Re-enactment Crew will give a short talk and demonstration and conduct the firing, weather permitting.

President Mattie Gladstone of LAHS extend appreciation and gratitude to all those LAHS members who participated in various ways to make the Bicentennial celebration of McIntosh County a memorable event.
